Independence Day (1996)

I love me a good disaster flick.  Something about watching cities get decimated by Mother Nature or some creature from another dimension just gets my blood pumping.  And amid the almost- guaranteed bad acting, there's usually a cheesy one-liner to go along with it.  Independence Day did not disappoint on any level, providing some decent thespians and groundbreaking special effects. When I went to see the film, I knew what it must of felt like when Jaws (1975) was released. People were lined up around the block bursting with excitement and anticipation.  The theater was cheering and applauding after the destruction scenes and when Earth defeated the aliens. A far cry from when I saw Independence Day: Resurgence and half the people were texting or preoccupied scarfing down the low mein they smuggled in.
